I am SO FUCKING GLAD I'm not in Statesboro anymore.
What a shitty week it was.

Let me explain my extended family.
I love them, I really do. But they're the kind of people who blame iniquitous events on television's influence, who have Bibles and paintings of Jesus all over the house but treat the homosexual check-out guy at the grocery store like shit, who honestly believe that the Qur'an preaches terrorism and call spanakopita "weird food" because they're too fucking xenophobic to try something new, and for fuck's sake, that believe Jumper was a clever movie with Oscar-worthy acting.
I wonder sometimes if I would be that way if I had not moved. I don't want to contemplate it.
I basically had to rip my cousin's husband a few new assholes while I was down there. We "debated" over a variety of subjects, and I made him my bitch in all.
He's one of those know-it-alls that doesn't really know shit. They think they're special because they give something a little thought. There are people in this world who don't really seem to think about anything; this is true. He's surrounded by these people, and so he thinks he's some enlightened philosophical prophet or some shit because he gives contemplates life on the most base level. Here was one "argument" he tried to make:

"Atheists are stupid! If you even think about it for at least five minutes, it's obvious God made everything. Take insects, for example. There are thousands of millions of them, and how many of them have made a lightbulb? Only man can do that!"

WHAT??!!!!!
Because you guys don't know me, I shall tell you, I had to take a deep breath to calm myself at this point.
I am not an Atheist. I have much faith in God, I have much love for him, and I try to adhere to the rules of my religion. I consider myself open-minded, which means I am willing to listen to any side of any argument or to try and "put myself in others' shoes", but I do not accept everything. I do not agree with Atheism, but I am NOT going to push my views on others, or call an enormous mass of people "stupid" based on a shared belief because I'm too fucking ignorant to come up with a better argument of why I may disagree with them.
I know Atheists, and they're some of the most intelligent arguers I know. Many of them (the ones I know) were raised in Christianity but were turned off by the hypocrisy of its followers. I do not find God to be a hypocrite, but people to be because of our meager understanding of the Bible. And so, if you're attending a Southern Baptist church in Bulloch and you have an original, intelligent thought, you'll realize that many of the so called "Christians" around you are full of shit, and you'll try to find another answer.
I know I'm not perfect. I'm not going to put a "but" at the end of that one. I'm not.
However, I don't feel that there are enough intelligent, open-minded people that can argue in the name of God. Open-mindedness doesn't mean being secular or accepting everything. I view the word as the state of being objective, willing to view topics and ideas from as many angles as possible, and then making a decision. The Christians I know don't even bother to come up with intelligent arguments in defense of their beliefs. They say "Science is wrong, Education is bad, Evolution is eeeevill!!" It's fucking ridiculous. On a basic level, I do see where they are coming from. Science doesn't have much to do with faith, more with man's discovery of the happenings of the world around them, and that scares the Christians because "when man puts too much faith in himself, bad things happen". (There's accuracy in that statement, but it doesn't always turn out that way.) Then, Education, being as secular as it is, being as important as it is to many people, being mandatory for the little children who can be led astray from the *diluted* word of God that the preacher spews! Oh Jaysus! And that Evolutionary Theory! Them tryna tell the children we came from monkeys rather than God!
I get it. By the way, I'm aware that, according to the Evolutionary Theory, that we are not descendants of monkeys. I don't agree with the Theory either, but it is a well-developed one, and I believe in adaptation. That, as with science, I find to be just another awe-worthy process created by God. Obviously not everyone will agree with that, and it's fine.
But just because Christians (once again, not all, the ones I know) see these things as an "us against them" doesn't give them the excuse to be dumbasses. And I'm sorry, the whole "insects haven't created lightbulbs so Evolution isn't real" is a dumbass argument. I find it stupid to be point of being offensive; as a fellow Believer, I do not want to associate myself with such a blatant imbecile, and if offends me on God's behalf, that this IDIOT is arguing so pathetically in His Name.

I am sleepy, but I shall continue the bitching later.
